What We Are About

Fastloop is a Vancouver-based professional services organization that fuses business strategy with technology implementations. Our pillars of excellence include: Big Data, Cloud Technology, and Analytics (including Advanced Analytics in AI and machine learning). Our core offering is building, implementing and scaling industry-leading Data & Analytics strategies for mid-market and large enterprises across North America. We do this by connecting siloed operating systems together, unifying them in the cloud, modelling them together, and operationalizing them to create significant business impact. We work agnostically across all systems and infrastructures, but also have a core Google Cloud practice, as Google Cloud and Looker implementation partners.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Data Modeling Analyst with the passion for data model design, data exploration, and data visualization. The Data Modeling Analyst works closely with a diverse team of cloud architects, data engineers, and business analysts to help consult mid-market enterprise businesses create new data strategies.

This work will involve the development, implementation, and transition of analytical processes to a cloud-based data warehouse and/or data lake where the data will be made available to other analytics initiatives and BI platforms (Power BI, Looker, Qlik, etc.). The Data Modeling Analyst must be comfortable working closely with technical and less-technical business users in client settings, for the purpose of defining data and modeling requirements to enable use cases and client objectives.

The Data Modeling Analyst is responsible for identifying the existing relationships across enterprise-wide entities, crossing multiple disparate systems, and identifying the best approach for normalizing and denormalizing data into the data warehouse/data lake. The approach should balance performance, flexibility, and complexity in its design, and enable the data to be utilized in a variety of analytics initiatives, including but not limited to baseline reporting in BI platforms to advanced analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Aide in the development and implementation of an overall organizational data strategy that is in line with business processes. The strategy includes data model designs, data warehouse/data lake normalization / denormalization best practices, data governance, and management of data warehouses and data analytics (BI) systems;
  • Identifying data sources, both internal and external, and working out a plan for data management that is aligned with organizational data strategy;
  • Coordinating and collaborating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors for the smooth functioning of the enterprise-wide data warehousing/data lake initiative;
  • Aiding in the creation of an end-to-end data architecture, from selecting the platform, designing the technical architecture, and testing and implementing the proposed analytics solution;
  • Defining and managing the flow of data and dissemination of information within the organization;
  • Integrating data governance best practices including data accessibility, integrity, quality, and security;
  • Conducting a continuous audit of analytics system performance, refining whenever required, and work to resolve these issues;

  • Determine the normalization and denormalization approaches for data being moved into data warehouse and/or data lake environments;
  • Design and lead the creation of enterprise-wide data models, identifying and mapping new relationship across systems;
  • Prepare accurate data modeling design and architecture strategies for stakeholders and business functions;
  • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing data warehouse and data lake systems; and,
  • Design models that reduce data redundancy, streamline data movements, and improve information management.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Must-Have

  • 3-5 years working directly on data modeling design and company-wide Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives;
  • Completed Undergraduate degree, including mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field;
  • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL-based projects;
  • Design and implement data modeling solutions using relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases;
  • Excellent data modeling / database design experience, ideally with Power BI, Looker, or Qlik BI experience;
  • Experience working with private and sensitive personal information (PII data);
  • Experience developing best practices for data coding to ensure consistency within systems;
  • Experience evaluating implemented data systems for variances, discrepancies, and efficiency;
  • Experience Troubleshooting and optimizing data systems;
  • Experience in data modelling for data governance and metadata management;
  • Confidence in decision making and the ability to explain processes or choices as needed; and,
  • Interpersonal and client-facing skills are required for meeting with and interviewing stakeholders on data and technical requirements.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with cloud-based data warehousing and data lake environments; and,
  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes in Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and/or Azure.
