Data Governance Consultant

You will play an active role with Fastloop’s technical, project and strategy teams throughout a data transformation project. You will specialize in building a data governance strategy, then implementing it across a multi-faceted heavy industry client in the distribution sector. Your Data Governance strategy will cover the entire lifecycle, including current state, gap and future state analysis, the across the implementation ensuring data quality, data classification, data lineage and data cataloguing.

In this role, you will:    

• Build a data governance operating model and implement an approved data governance framework based on industry-leading governance standards;  
• Work with cross-functional teams including executives, project teams and front line staff to uncover, solve and simplify data challenges;  

• Build and manage the Data Governance framework from scratch with accountability to deliver on the Strategy, Tech Implementation and Change Enablement phases including the creation of all documentation, detailed plans and implementation roadmaps;  
• Design all Data Governance KPIs and reporting requirements;
• Classify data in a secure and privacy safe context that prioritizes data related risks across many stakeholders;  
• Recommendations on which data policies, rules, regulations should be implemented;  
• Create best practices, taxonomy and ontology;  

• Participate in a team environment to ensure alignment (i.e. attend weekly project status meetings, provide regular updates);  
• Provide industry leading knowledge of data governance standards, concepts and implementations;  
• Proactively manage issues and risks to achieving project goals and maintain responsibility for mitigating issues to ensure project delivery;
• Accountable for managing approved budgets and tracking costs to ensure project spend is aligned to scope;  
• Responsible for communication management (i.e. preparation of executive program reports, internal and external presentations concerning program scope, timelines, activities, issues, budget and project status); and,  

• Maintain excellent relationships with client, project team and strategic vendors.

• Combined with a B.S. degree or similar in Computer Science, Big Data & Analytics, etc and/or equivalent practical experience;  

• Experience working with elastic cloud computing, including Google Cloud, AWS and/or Microsoft Azure infrastructures;  
• Solid understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, data lake and cloud architectures including their implications on governance;  
• Demonstrate an expert understanding of data governance concepts that span the entire data lifecycle as well as applicable privacy regulations and industry standards;
• Excellent written, communication, relationship and interpersonal skills;  
• Strong demonstrated ability to work with others effectively across multi-disciplinary teams;  

• Attention to detail and commitment to deliver extremely high-quality work outputs with immaculate verbal and written communication skills;  
• Keen interest in today’s rapidly evolving technology, business and data landscape;  
• Significant experience with data governance capabilities such as metadata, data mapping, policy management, governance/quality metrics development, reporting taxonomy, data stewardship, data classification and/or data catalogue management; and,  
• Have a deep knowledge of data governance tools and technologies, primarily Google Data Catalogue, but also experience in Collibra, Informatica, AXON, Alation, OneTrust, and/or IBM IGC an asset.
